Loud and Clear!
The vote on the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) is quickly making its way towards Congress. If CAFTA is passed, it will serve as a steppingstone to the FTAA. With the CAFTA vote on the near horizon, many realize the urgency in publicizing these deceptive trade pacts.
Our major city ad campaigns are broadcasting our opposition to the FTAA far and wide. In fact, during the last few weeks our anti-FTAA message has been filling the Phoenix radio and TV airwaves! In addition to Phoenix, there are radio and television ads, letters to the editor, billboards, and video presentations in cities all across the country.
Lending a hand in the fight, The New American magazine has recently published an FTAA thematic issue entitled Losing Our Independence (February 7, 2005 edition). This issue tackles phony trade pacts and their devastating impacts on America’s independence. One article in this gripping issue, “A UN Pedigree, Under UN Power” shows the close connection between the UN and the FTAA. The New American not only offers a hard copy magazine, it also maintains a newly revamped website, thenewamerican.com which serves as a news source keeping you informed through fresh daily news articles and links to articles about the FTAA and other important topics.
CAFTA Congressional Hearings could begin as early as mid- February: The vote on CAFTA, FTAA’s stepping stone, could occur as early as March or April.
