LONDON (Reuters) -- The International Planned Parenthood Federation said on Monday it had received an $8.8 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The money, which will be spread over five years, will help the British-based IPPF improve reproductive health and family planning services for women in more than 180 countries around the world.
"This grant will allow IPPF to translate the quality of care concept into reality," Dr Carlos Huezo, the director of the IPPF Medical and Technical Unit, said in a statement.
"The benefits of this project will have an effect not only within the IPPF network, but well beyond," he added.
The founder of Microsoft and his wife have donated more than $20 billion to the foundation which is dedicated to improving people's lives by sharing advances in health.
