Born in the segregated south in Sept. 23, 1930, he became blind by age 7 but went on to overcome his poverty & blindness to become one of America's & the world's most beloved musical artists. His songwriting & performing ranged from Rhythm & Blues to Soul to Rock to Country. He also overcome his drug problems to become an inspiration to many of today's artists in many genres of music.
