It has been awhile since I have e-mailed out my cartoons, but here are a few of my most recent ones.

Last month I had one published in my local newspaper, the Orange County Register. It is the one about the budget shortfall. I am excited to say that the Orange County Register will be running another cartoon of mine this Sunday.

I doubt the success of the "Good News, Great Kids" program. If the sorts of kids were being recognized that the program is intended for, how do you get a kid who is not only overly praised for his mediocrity, but also rapes acquaintances at his dirty parties and makes his living stealing cars? The thought that he's getting his picture in the paper and being awarded a four year scholarship on the pretense that he is a good person makes me ill. The person to whom I refer is Audi Choumkhammany.

I oppose raids of the Permanent Fund or reductions of the revenue stream that build the Permanent Fund. I also oppose Gov. Murkowski's veto of funding for the Longevity Bonus Program. I believe that the Legislature continues to take our state closer to financial disaster by ignoring the root of Alaska’s fiscal problem. Oil revenues are diminishing. Replacing oil revenue with new taxes or cutting the Longevity Bonus cannot fix the problem. Government spending must be reduced.

The current level of state spending is unsustainable. Taxing Alaskans to support unsustainable spending will not solve the budget crisis. Why has there been no real plan initiated to cut bureaucratic fat from the budget? Why has there been no effort by our Legislature to plan for a sustainable future?

Alaskans wants to know which Legislators support Governor Murkowski’s Longevity Bonus cut. Without Legislative support, the Governor’s veto would not stand. In my opinion, the failure of each Legislator to publicly state their position on the Longevity issue is the same as supporting the cut. Why has there not been a public vote to expose which Legislators support the Governor’s Longevity bonus cut? Who benefits from secret decisions made by our elected officials?

Alaska’s public business should be conducted in the light of day, not behind closed doors. We deserve to know the truth!

Please see the highlighted area below - and tell me 3 countries that get more oil money than Alaska

This is news to me.

Gary Rice

Re: "Freedom Writer supports the "83% Coalition" in their attempt to protect the PFD by INCREASING THE TAXES ON..."

"THE OIL INDUSTRY IN ALASKA. Third World countries get far more income from their partnership with the oil industry than Alaska does. One just has to look at the lack of modern health & sanitation & infrastructure systems in rural (MOST OF ) Alaska to realize that, despite the apparent evidence of progress in the urban areas of Alaska, most of Alaska is still an underdeveloped Third World region. Only the oil industry officials & state employees (elected, appointed, & classified) have benefited consistently since the Trans-Alaska Pipeline was constructed. It's time..."

I will defer this question to my readers, who are welcome to respond to your question also, who are oil experts & also refer you to 2 articles by Ray Metcalfe, a former Alaska state legislator who served when the many of the oil taxation & PFD infrastructure laws were passed. Also, when you ask which 3 countries, are you referring to the total aggregate amount of oil revenues or a percentage of oil revenues compared to a nation's budget?

Webmaster's Comments: Alaska only receives a 12.5 % or one eighth share from state owned lands. Most Countries receive more, ie. Venezuela receive 25 % or one quarter. Louisiana as per tone of their legislators I spoke with on Aug 23 said they make 18% royalty on their state lands.

"Ylitalo - Blessings Happen!"

I've received the below email; Your site DOES have the bottom part of the information on it, and I wanted to know if the first part of the information has been on your site, too from the Commander - or if someone has just made it up added it to the email...

Thank you

  • Bill Clinton registers for the draft on September 08, 1964, accepting all contractual conditions of registering for the draft. Given Selective Service Number 3 26 46 228.
  • Bill Clinton classified 2-S on November 17, 1964.
  • Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on March 20, 1968.
  • Bill Clinton ordered to report for induction on July 28, 1969.
  • Bill Clinton dishonors order to report and is not inducted into the military.
  • Bill Clinton reclassified 1-D after enlisting in the United States Army Reserves on August 07,1969 under authority of Col.E.Holmes.
  • Clinton signs enlistment papers and takes oath of enlistment.
  • Bill Clinton fails to report to his duty station at the University of Arkansas ROTC, September 1969.
  • Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on October 30, 1969, as enlistment with Army Reserves is revoked by Colonel E. Holmes and Clinton now AWOL and subject to arrest under Public Law 90-40 (2)(a) "registrant who has failed to report...remain liable for induction".
  • Bill Clinton's birth date lottery number is 311, drawn December 1,1969, but anyone who has already been ordered to report for induction is INELIGIBLE!
  • Bill Clinton runs for Congress (1974), while a fugitive from justice under Public Law 90-40.
  • Bill Clinton runs for Arkansas Attorney General (1976), while a fugitive from justice.
  • Bill Clinton receives pardon on January 21, 1977, from Carter.
  • Bill Clinton (FIRST PARDONED FEDERAL FELON) ever to serve as President.

All these facts come from Freedom of Information requests, public laws, and various books that have been published, and have not been refuted by Clinton.

  • After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1,000; President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
  • After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
  • After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
  • After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
  • After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
  • Maybe if Clinton had kept those promises, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, D.C. that are now dead would be alive today.

This question was raised on a Philly radio call-in show. Without casting stones, it is a legitimate question. There are two men, both extremely wealthy. One develops relatively cheap software and gives billions of dollars to charity. The other sponsors terrorism. That being the case, why was it that the Clinton Administration spent more money chasing down Bill Gates over the eight years in office, than Osama bin Laden? THINK ABOUT IT!

It is a strange turn of events. Hillary gets $8 Million for her forthcoming memoir.

Bill gets about $12 Million for his memoir yet to be written. This from two people who spent 8 years being unable to recall anything about past events while under oath!

Cdr. Hamilton McWhorter USN (ret)

P.S. Please forward this to as many people as you can! We don't want this woman to even THINK of running for President.

Saw a space shuttle fly over while working at a community college in Rocklin, CA, a few years back. Saw it coming from the west and it covered horizon to horizon in about 10 to 15 seconds. Shuttle was bright white and it left what appeared to be a white contrail of some type as it crossed the sky. THERE WAS NO SONIC BOOM!! (Not enough air at that altitude to compress in order to create one?) Also, a reporter at a local TV station, Channel 3, in Sacramento, CA, said on the 5pm news, the day after the "accident", that a man had taken photos showing a purple light striking the shuttle Columbia. When the 6pm news was shown on the same channel no further mention was made of this! Tried to contact this reporter and the same TV station via email and got no response! Something is going on. Perhaps war in heaven? L.C. Blanck ()

One thing I think you should look into is organ donations. They are trying to pass laws of an opt out and not opt in bills. They want to make it where it is presumed that every American is a Organ Donor. Im not neither is my family. What right do they have to presume I'm a Donor?

They call your house and sound like telemarketers. telling you what body parts could be used from loved ones who die even when you have on your license your not a donor.

They say they don't make money from it but many private organ banks have stocks. Why is that? Organ people lie about the fact that the body is okay after donation you know how hard it is to put a body back together for a funeral after there done with it? Its a mess.

I like to add that they are out of control and should have watch groups on them because they want to pass bills that are against the constitution.

I have first hand experance when it comes to Organ Donation. When my uncle died he didn't have yes on his drivers license and the organ people called the house at 2 am asking for his parts. My family was hit by surprise when he died he was only 47 and expressed to us in past he is not a donor. How come when it comes to organ donation and im not a donor where are my families rights to privacy?

It is a shame that the U.S. is covering up the fact that Columbia was shot down by the Russians using the force of EMP from their ABM sites at Sarshagan and the OTH Woodpecker grids using matrix interferometry. First it was Challenger in 1986 and now in the reentry phase Columbia was vaporized. We of course know that Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden payed off the Ruskies to have Israeli Ilan Ramon killed, therby destroying the symbol of America in the Columbia space shuttle.

I am finishing a book on the subject which will inform the world that U.S. technology did not fail with respect to the shuttles, only that we do not have any real defense against the advanced directed energy weapons utilized on the principles of Nikola Tesla.

Please contact via e-mail as we need to inform an uninformed American and world public who the real enemy is and why the U.S. does not have the balls to retaliate on a first strike against the ABM sites in the heart of Russia.

Howdy Bill,

While looking through your newest issue the thought came to me that if the order of articles in your Headline News section began/opened onto the most recent date, instead of the oldest, it would make finding the latest news easier. Just thought I'd mention it while thinking of it. With all the sunshine, I'm already looking forward to catching a few games this summer. I'll be looking for ya.

From "httpd"

Yes, you are right. I forgot to "time-prioritize" them. I will endeavor to do better for issue #27 & in the future.

Re: CAFR - John Wayne Glotfelty

Just finished going over the CAFR article submitted by John Wayne Glotfelty. It was the clearest and best overall explanation of an admittedly complicated issue that I've seen yet. Have any of our elected Public Officials in Alaska been approached ? ... made any comments in reference to it ? Especially considering these days of tax-frenzy in Juneau, I would think someone would feel compelled to respond to the issue.

Re: May 15/Disasters/Cdr. H. McWhorter

An article, supposedly written by Cdr. Hamilton McWhorter USN (ret) , was brought to my attention today. I fell that I have to comment on it.

The article was basically a slam Clinton article. Pick someone else for a change...I'm sure any number of other former or present Presidents have as many interesting "facts" floating around about them. I'm tired of Clinton bashing...give it a rest! It's beginning to look a little strange when someone has to keep knocking an individual well past his time in public office.....

Oddly enough, during Clinton's stay in office...the nation had it's national debt paid off..the economy thrived.

Why doesn't Cdr. McWhorter try just as hard to dig up more positive facts about Clinton's terms...those facts are out there too. If you have to bash someone, bash Bush (old and new). By the way, Cdr. H. McWhorter USN retired in 1969, flew missions in 1943 and's he still alive?! Maybe it's his spirit that's communicating with us.

EDITOR'S REPLY (5-17-03):

The corruption of the Clinton Administration is what drove me from the Democratic Party when they failed to remove him, themselves, like the Republicans drove Nixon from office during Watergate. Clinton deserves the "bashing" & should be behind prison bars if we had any US Attorney General with their salt to do what is necessary to make that happen, as both Janet Reno & John Ashcroft decided against prosecuting him & other "criminals" within his administration.

It was the Republicans in Congress during those years that brought the budget into balance & Clinton just "signed off" on the budget that was passed by Congress (that WAS a GOOD THING Clinton did). It's too bad the Republicans are not balancing the budget now. As long as Clinton stays in the media's limelight, he will be "bashed" by me & others who resent his contempt for the law.

If George W. Bush screws up, I'll be on his case, too. I'm not a registered Democrat or Republican these days.

As far as the survivability of veterans from WWII, my father is a veteran of the US Army Infantry in both WWII & the Korean War, & won a Bronze Star in Korea. He will be 86 on Dec. 2, 2003. They are many older veterans still alive, if you would care to check the actuarials, but not that many. Long live those spirits of those not physically present with us today, as well as those who are still here. We owe our freedom to them!

I've always heard people say that the Alaska Constitution does not allow tax dollars to go to private schools. So I looked up the actual language, and I think I found the problem! Our assumptions are wrong. To paraphrase Clinton, it is all a matter of definition.

The Alaska constitution says that the state must create a system of public schools. The constitution also prohibits tax dollars from going to private schools. A public school is as any school that admits the public without regard to ability to pay. So a free market school that used scholarships or donations to fund education would be a public school. A "private school" is a school that only admits students who can afford the tuition or is of the same religion or other requested affiliation.

Free market schools are every bit as public a school as are government schools. As for creating a system of public schools open to all children, that is simply a matter of licensing.

Article VII

Health, Education and Welfare
SECTION 1. PUBLIC EDUCATION. The legislature shall by general law establish and maintain a system of public schools open to all children of the State, and may provide for other public educational institutions. Schools and institutions so established shall be free from sectarian control. No money shall be paid from public funds for the direct benefit of any religious or other private educational institution.

Hi everyone,

hope the weather's good wherever you are. It's been so miserably rainy and cold here in New York, and today it's finally sunny and warm, and it feels kind of like a miracle!

I just did a really fun couple of tours with Richard Shindell. We went all over the place, including the Mid-Atlantic, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Alaska was stunningly beautiful, as always, and we even saw a few moose right next to the road. My husband Rick was along and the two of them were so funny (and the jokes got dirtier and dirtier), I don't think I've laughed so much in a long time. And it was so great to sing with Richard again.

I also did a few gigs with the wonderful Susan Werner, who I also love singing with, and in addition to singing "The Water is Wide" together, at the very last gig, in Chicago, we took 5 minutes before the show and worked up a pretty unique version of The Beatles' "If I Fell", and it brought down the house. And we didn't get it on tape!

And I did a fun show at The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens (which, by the way, is the most beautiful set of gardens I've seen anywhere), and the fabulous Jon Herington played guitar with me. It was an afternoon show and there was an entire mosh pit of toddlers dancing and playing right in front of me and it was unbelievably cute.

I'm going to start recording my new album next week and I'm really excited. It's going to be produced by Ben Wittman, who produced my last two albums, and he'll play drums too. I'm so lucky to have snagged him and the rest of the band: Duke Levine and Jon Herington on electric and acoustic guitars, and various other guitar-like instruments, and Zev Katz on bass. We're going to record the album live, so I'll be singing while the band is playing. It's going to be a mix of original songs and covers (some of the original songs are really, really new). It should be coming out in February or March 2004. I'll fill you in more as things progress.

Anyway, here's where I'll be in the next few weeks:
