MAGNIFICENT 7 VETERANS BILLS
Ted and Francoise Gianoutsos
Anchorage, AK
May 29, 2003
- SB133 (Ellis) – HB181 (Croft) STATE VETERANS’ HOME.
A two paragraph bill authorizing the construction of Alaska’s first, long-overdue, stand-alone Veterans’ Home.
- SB134 (Ellis) – HB182 (Croft) APPROPRIATIONS FOR STATE VETERANS’ HOME.
A one paragraph bill appropriating the state’s 1/3rd share (the VA pays for 2/3rds) of the construction costs of a state Veterans’ Home.
- SB204 (Ellis) DONATIONS FOR STATE VETERANS’ HOME.
A one sentence bill allowing the state to accept gifts, grants, and bequests from individuals and organizations to replace tax money to help finance the state Veterans’ Home.
- SB205 (Ellis) “GOOD NEIGHBOR ACT”.
A one sentence bill allowing for “PFD Gift Assignment Philanthropy” to any Alaska 501(c)(3) charity to benefit the Alaska common good. It will also encourage and facilitate PFD gift assignments to help finance the construction and operation of the state Veterans’ Home.
- SB146 (Guess) – HB206 (Croft) COMMEMORATIVE VETERANS LICENSE PLATE.
A two paragraph bill authorizing special plates to honor veterans with the $100 fee to be used for veterans programs such as the state Veterans’ Home. This bill passed unanimously in the Senate and House during the first session and was signed into law by Governor Murkowski in June 2003.
- SB135 (Ellis) – HB180 (Croft) ALASKA VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY.
A two sentence bill designating November 11 as “Alaska Veterans Appreciation Day”.
- SJR11 (Ellis) – HJR14 (Croft) NATIONAL VETERANS WHEELCHAIR GAMES.
A one paragraph resolution to bring 600 disabled veteran participants to Alaska for the week-long games.
The above “MAGNIFICENT 7 VETERANS BILLS” benefit Alaska, replace tax dollars with gifts, and honor Alaska’s veterans and military. They all deserve to be passed unanimously, as SB146 was in the first session, and signed into law by Governor Murkowski. Please lobby the legislature and Governor Murkowski to achieve unanimous passage of the remaining 6 bills during the second session in 2004. thanks!
Ted and Francoise Gianoutsos – strong supporters of stand-alone Alaska Veterans’ Homes.

Isn't it interesting that once the sponsors of veterans bills are in the majority they forget all about the vets? This has been the case for both the donkeys and elephants, the only time they want the vets is when they are not in power.
