- City prepared for emergencies
Today, city, state, and federal officials met with the Anchorage media to discuss the preparedness measures that have been implemented in Anchorage since the war with Iraq began. For the last week, the group has had daily meetings to discuss intelligence updates, share actions taken and review community needs.
Residents should feel confident in our joint efforts. Anchoragešs first responders have trained for a multitude of emergency scenarios and our communication links with the various agencies are better than ever.
It is important to note there are no intelligence reports that indicate Anchorage is in any danger of a specific threat.
Phone number set up to report damage
In an attempt to get a better picture of the total wind damage done to homes and businesses around the Municipality, the city has set up a special number to call to report damage 343-7474. Or, citizens can visit www.muni.org and click on Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to send an e-mail of the information.
Citizens should be prepared to provide their name, address, phone number, description of the damage, a cost estimate, and if they have reported the damage to their insurance company. The information will be compiled, assessed and forwarded to the State Division of Emergency Services. While the preliminary assessment does not appear to rise to the occasion of a municipal emergency declaration, the information provided may change that assessment and garner residents some State or Federal assistance.
