STAFFER SEEKING SUPPORT FOR SEPT. 11 TRIBUTE SONG EFFORT

Dan Saddler
Oct.1, 2001

Many of you know Dave Stancliff, who is not only longtime chief aide to Rep. Scott Ogan, but also a talented musician, songwriter and performer. Inspired by the national swell of emotion following the attacks of September 11, he has written a song, "Rise Up (From the Fall)."

This is an outstanding composition that has drawn the attention of some big players in the music business Outside, who have invited him south to perform, record and distribute it in an effort to spread a healing message to the nation, and to generate proceeds to aid in the national relief effort.

Alaska's contributions to the nation both in calm and in crisis are well known, and I believe the musical message of national steadfastness, hope and faith conveyed by Dave's song is a worthy addition to these contributions. He plans to take leave from his job to carry this message to the rest of the nation, and I would encourage you to consider making his effort your effort - offering support in the form of thoughts, words, deeds and prayers.

Many people have been looking outside ourselves for a way to help in these troubled times. I think "Rise Up (From the Fall)" is a good way for those of us working for the public good in Alaska to reach out and do some good for all Americans. On his behalf, I encourage you to contact Dave at work (907) 376-4866, or at his Tok homestead at (907) 883-4468; to leave a message with Sue Stancliff at (907) 269-0251; or to leave an email message through http://www.alaskamusicartists.com/ to learn more about how you might be able to help in this effort.

Message from Dave

Dearest friends and associates,

As I leave you to begin this little walk of faith in an effort to do what I can in the healing of our fellow Americans and our nation, I want to offer just a few words ...

First, this tragedy has made me realize more than ever where the heart and soul of our state and our nation is. It is not in our chambers, or our committee rooms or our postulation on various topics or issues. It is not in the winning of elections or the clever strategies that deliver us winning votes. It is not in the papers on the tube or large receptions amidst the jumbo shrimp or the endless handshakes and political conversations ...

It is within each and every one of you ... us ... as we go about chasing our American dreams in the struggle to build a better future for those that follow ...

I do not leave conservatives or liberals, Democrats or Republicans, urban or rural, Alaskans as I make my way to Gettysburg with this song ...

I leave my Alaska and my precious family there ...

It has been an honor to serve with each of you and to be able to do what I can on behalf of the people here in our precious Alaska ...

I promise to carry your spirit and energy with me as I endeavor to make this offering in song the best and most unselfish gift it can possibly be ...

I will do it proudly as an Alaskan ... as your friend and colleague and hopefully with your blessings and prayers ...

As Richard Foster loves to say, "thank you for being you," and thank you for your support and faith as my friends in our Alaskan Legislative family ...

Love,

David

P.S. If any of you would like a first run CD please let Susan know at 269-0250

Proceeds will be donated to Local 1264 Firemen's Fund to assist the families of the fallen firefighters. The minimum donation is $10; the rest is up to you. God Bless.

Rise Up (From The Fall) / drs 9-20-2001

Here we are,
left behind,
when our loved ones had to go,
Here we are, …..left to fill,
hearts and spaces from below,
But we shall rise, ….once again,
past all mighty towers tall,
We shall rise,
yes we shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall.

Along our streets,
when we miss their daily smiles,
Along our streets,
we'll be lifted from our trials,
Along our streets, with our memories large and small,
We shall rise,
yes we shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall.

We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise,
ohhhh,
Americans one and all,
We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise.

With their lives,
they will take us to new heights,
With their lives,
we'll turn darkness into light,
With their lives,
they have touched us one and all,
And we shall rise,
yes we shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall.

We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise,
ohhhh,
Americans one and all,
We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise.

They'll all be waiting,
just up around the bend,
They'll all be waiting,
our old huckleberry friends,
They'll all be waiting,
now can't you hear them call?
For us to rise up,
yes we shall rise up,
we shall rise up from their fall.

We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise,
ohhhh,
Americans one and all,
We shall rise,
we shall rise up from the fall,
We shall rise,
(we shall rise up from the fall).
