Division (into bondage)
vs. Inclusion (into freedom)
THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE SPEECH
(Here's the speech I wish Bush would deliver...)
By David Stancliff
Alaska
August 2000
If it
were up to the liberals, the United States would be many nations,
under no God, socially divided, with liberty and justice only for
the politically correct. Let me explain why I issue such a charge.
Our country
was founded as a refuge where people of diverse ways could co-exist
together through a unifying common principal finally free from government
or religious persecution. The precept for success was simple, human
beings are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights,
among those being, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Since
its origin, our nation on many occasions has been tested. Now, we
face an ominous challenge throughout the very fiber of our Republic.
It is challenge best illustrated as the difference between me, and
my opponent. You must decide who will best weave our differences together
for the greater good of our God blessed American dream, or split us
further asunder? Shall we march forward with the vision of our founders
or trample each other's rights in the name of politically sponsored
special interests.
As Americans
we must identify those who are working to divide us. More importantly
we must recognize how they are doing it and why. Ask yourself, what
party derives its influence and seeks to increase its power through
ethnic, economic, and even religious segregation? What leaders when
they speak, promise not the American dream, but an American scheme?
What leaders offer opportunity not through effort, but through social
classification? What leaders try to somehow justify moral indiscretions
with claims of political accomplishments? Who would have us believe
our elected leaders should be judged, not upon their honor or their
word, but solely upon unemployment or inflation rates?
Americans
every where of every race, creed, and religion, must object and reject
the notion that all people are fallible therefore we should not expect
a greater degree of accountability from those we have entrusted our
most sacred treasure, the cause of freedom, formed under God. We have
a gift of freedom unique in man's recorded existence. A freedom born,
protected and sustained through faith in powers unseen. A freedom
bought and sanctified through the gift of countless young and precious
lives. A freedom lifted up and blessed by the huddled masses and the
weary and heavy laden. By immigrants, who when gifted with the American
dream, brought forth bounty from this land. Who turned a raw rough
frontier into a sparkling jewel of hope. Not through social division,
but through social inclusion. Not through parasitic regulations, but
through freedom and prosperity.
Let us
reject those who mock our ancestor's efforts, or seek to cloud their
children's vision. Let us rise up, enlarge and amplify those efforts.
Let us more brightly illuminate the cause that has given rise to the
greatest nation on earth and hope to all humankind. My American family,
if we are to long endure, if we are to have a bright future, if we
are to regain our moral balance, it must be through unity and an end
to economic and social bondage.
Let me
speak of the Republican party. It is not perfect. It needs improvement.
But let me stress why I have chosen the Republican path. A path opposed
to social classification and division. Ours is not the party of promises
to everyone. Ours is a party of unlimited opportunity. Ours is not
the philosophy that none can fail. Ours is philosophy that all can
succeed. Ours is not the code of extinguishing generosity through
mandatory contribution. Ours is a party of families, neighbors, and
communities opening their hearts and not just their pocket books for
those in need. Ours is not the party of moral exceptions. Ours is
the party based on moral standards. Ours is not a party of sliding
degrees or excuse based education. Ours is the party of pride in learning
and confidence in our accomplishments.
For those
of you in our great country tempted to vote for the candidate who
promises you something instead of allowing you to earn it, I urge
you to reject such temptations. Reject the candidate who would take
from your neighbor to give to you. Reject the candidate who promises
not an education, but a meaningless degree. Reject the candidate who
sees not a village, but rather votes within a village divided. Avoid
the candidate who wants to claim credit for an Administration's deeds,
but refuses to recognize the dishonorable acts within it.
Americans
must say no to those who tempt us through political handouts, least
we become their political currency to be bought and sold. Say no to
those would take from your neighbor, for it is your neighbor you must
face with honor each day. Say no to those who offer not an education,
but a piece of paper for jobs and real success can not be bought with
anything but a real education. Say no to those who talk about a village
but divide us with their words and social payoffs.
We must
unite our American family. We must include all in the dream. We must
all rise up but tear no one down in the process. We must put off the
temptations to shortcut, for no mighty task has ever accomplished
without a mighty effort. We must, as John F. Kennedy extolled, ask
not to be recipients of government's gifts, but to give of ourselves
so that we may rid ourselves of government dependency. We must not
be a nation divided, for a house of selfish interests can not, and
will not stand.
We must
realize if we sell our birthrights as Americans to those who have
built their power not on freeing the challenged, but keeping the challenged
dependent, we will all lose the most precious gift of all - freedom.
Socialism does not advance the entrepreneur, but taxes them into discouragement.
Socialism will not advance the educated, but relegate them into a
system with no incentive to succeed. We have seen the results of socialism
and yet there are those among who lure those in need deeper into its
sinister something for nothing trap. Americans everywhere, I ask you
to join me in brightening our beacon. Now is the time for you and
for me to let our lamp of freedom and liberties burn with a new message.
In America and we hope one day in the world all people will be as
we have been…United in freedom. Unleashed by liberty. Empowered by
the most golden of rules do unto your neighbor, as you would have
your neighbor do unto you.
Some
may want to know how to identify those who divide, instead of include.
Start by asking, which party will cease to exist if Americans no longer
depend upon the handouts of government? What candidates have built
their campaigns on a strategy of division and suppression? What philosophy
speaks not to opportunity but exploitation? What party thrives best
when Americans are waging class warfare upon each other?
I intend
to lead my party to include the unwed mother, the homeless, the unemployed,
the people who feel isolated or rejected for beliefs, cultures, or
circumstances beyond your control. I ask those of you in such dire
circumstances to rise up and reject the pandering notions of those
who merely throw life rings instead of bringing you on board. Do not
fall for the politics of exploitation. Say no to those who denigrate
you or insist you can not make it without their help.
Look
to the party and leaders with a real vision of hope. Look to the philosophy
of can do and will do. Look to those who want to defeat the forces
that lock you up or push you down. Freedom rests not with the endless
giveaway programs of the liberals. Hope is not their standard. Dependency
on their programs and checking off their names in the ballot booth
is the only aim in their deceitful game. They talk the talk, but they
have never walked the walk and if they have their way you never will
either. They do not see you as equals but as their personal political
dependents. I say turn a deaf ear to the siren socialist songs that
rob you of your personal pride.
Look
up and step up to a new future. Ours is party of inclusion. Ours is
the way out of the dark shadows of political imprisonment. Ours is
not a temporary fix of government dollars. Ours is a long-term hope
for self-sustainment, for pride in life and living. They are the pushers.
We are the cleansers. They imprison the soul. We appeal to your better
natures. It is time to break away from social dependence. Break away
from orchestrated poverty. Break away form those who promise you happiness
through giveaway program addiction.
I pledge
you opportunity. I pledge a real and final cure for discouragement.
A day when you can proudly say to your government, "I will be fine
without you.". I will never accept poverty as a fact of American life.
I will never accept lack of education for our children in the inner
cities. Parents deserve alternatives to make sure their children get
a real education and not some phony piece of paper.
I'm calling
upon you to support the party of Lincoln. The party of hope and prosperity
for all who will give their best effort. I am asking you to support
a party that includes all those wanting to rise above their current
station. I promise I will not divide us into classes, but unite and
include all Americans in the promises of liberty and freedom.
I promise
to never view any American as a number dependent on a program, but
as a human being with a right to have an equal chance to succeed at
any quest they may choose to follow.
We are
the party of hope and the party of faith. We are Republicans and we
welcome your support. I will not let our party forget you nor put
you in a box. We will make sure you have the tools needed to fully
experience the joy of the American dream. It is the dream of a president
who founded our party and freed a people. A dream that flows, not
from man, but from God. A dream not of division, but of unity. A dream
not of contest, but of peace. A dream not of favoritism, but of freedom
and opportunity. A dream that shall live as long as those we entrust
with power cherish and protect it, not just for some, but for all
Americans past, present and future. Now is the time to claim freedom.
Now is the time to break the bonds of social imprisonment. Now is
the time to tell those who try to buy your vote with sweet social
narcotics that your vote, your personal honor, is not for sale. Now,
more than ever, we as Americans need to include all in our family
of freedom and forever be, one nation, under God, with liberty and
justice for all.
